Ottawa athletes shine at the 2019 Canada Winter Games!

The 2019 Canada Winter Games, held in Red Deer from February 15 to March 3, has just wrapped up and huge kudos goes out to all the athletes who participated and gave it their all. With 19 sports and over 150 events, Red Deer welcomed up to 3600 athletes, managers and coaches and over 20,000 visitors, making it the largest event ever hosted in the city.

The Province of Ontario is beaming with our athletes bringing home a grand total of 105 medals, second to only Quebec. This includes 18 gold, 43 silver and 44 Bronze. The City of Ottawa should also be very proud with 13 of the 22 Ottawa-area athletes bringing home medals.

Here are the medals won by our Ottawa athletes:

Gold Medal:

  • Michael Raytchev – Figure Skating Special Olympics Level II

Silver Medal:

  • Brandt Clark – Hockey
  • Connor Lockhart – Hockey
  • Mason McTavish – Hockey
  • Pierre Grall-Johnson – Cross Country Skiing Sprint
  • Emma Kelly – Ringette
  • Marta Matuszewski – Ringette
  • Rachael Pelisek – Ringette
  • Liza Roik – Ringette
  • Ann Shiao – Table Tennis

Bronze Medal:

  • Lucas Craston – Boxing
  • Jade Warren – Artistic Swimming Team
  • Noah Bouma – Speed Skating Long Track Team Pursuit

The Ottawa Sport Council is very proud of all the local athletes who participated in the 2019 Canada Winter Games, medal or not. A huge thank you goes out to all the coaches, volunteers and parents who have supported our Ottawa athletes tirelessly to help them be their best. Congratulations to all the athletes who participated in the Games and we wish you continued success in your future athletic careers!
