President : Mathieu Fleury

Mathieu brings his experience volunteering for the Canadian Olympic Committee, Canada Women’s National Baseball Team, Volleyball Canada and Diving Canada in addition to his work as a City Councillor to OSC’s Board of Directors. In 2010, he became one of the youngest councillors with the City of Ottawa at age 25. Mathieu is currently the City Councillor for the Rideau-Vanier Ward. Mathieu’s prior experiences include working with the City of Ottawa in the Recreation and Culture department and interning with the Minister of State (Sport) for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Mathieu’s role on the Board is just one of many ways in which he contributes to the Ottawa community.

Treasurer : Muhamad Adatia (he/him)

Treasurer : Muhamad Adatia (he/him)

Muhamad is an avid sports enthusiast, having grown up playing and watching many, he truly believes in the power of sport in building lifelong values and connections. Muhamad attributes many of his leadership and interpersonal skills to those developed in the arena. He advocates for inclusivity and strives to utilize sports as an avenue for empowerment and leadership development. Professionally, Muhamad is a Chartered Professional Accountant with over fifteen years of experience and has a strong financial background. He enjoys providing education through financial literacy and takes pride in accurate financial reporting to ensure organizational growth and strategic alignment.”

Secretary : Alana White (she/her)

Secretary : Alana White (she/her)

Alana has been active in sport from a young age, beginning gymnastics at age three and competing from age six into her early twenties. She began working in sport over ten years ago with both non-profit and privately-owned organizations in capacities such as administration, finance, events, and athletic development. Alana currently leads the finance and administration team at Volleyball Canada, and is a proud NCCP gymnastics coach and Level 9 women’s artistic gymnastics judge. She is especially passionate about increasing and extending participation of girls and young women in sport, and looks forward to joining the Ottawa Sport Council Board to support their great projects and work.

Director : Mike Patterson (he/him)

Director : Mike Patterson (he/him)

Mike brings with him a wealth of knowledge in project management and stakeholder engagement along with a pure love of sport. His career began working in New York with NHL players to help manage their careers and has grown to include working on five Olympic games and five Paralympic Games. Mike joined the Canadian Olympic Committee in 1998 in Athlete Relations, then moved on to become the Director of Marketing. Mike also worked as a Partnership Advisor with the Canadian Paralympic Committee. Mike’s lifelong career in sport is an invaluable asset to the Ottawa Sport Council Board of Directors.

Director : Micheline Turnau (she/her)

Director : Micheline Turnau (she/her)

As one of the Council’s Directors, Micheline brings expertise in program and policy development, capacity building, advocacy, and risk management. Her educational background includes a Master’s Diploma in Policy and Program Evaluation from Carleton University. Beyond the OSC Board of Directors, Micheline has emersed herself in sport as a Board Member with Calabogie Peaks Freestyle Club as well as partnering with Freestyle Ontario to organize the Girlz in Freestyle camp. In her professional life, Micheline works as Manager of Research and Policy Development with the Canadian Association of Radiologists.

Director : Chelsea McDermott (she/her)

Director : Chelsea McDermott (she/her)

Chelsea McDermott joins the Ottawa Sport Council board with over a decade of experience in sports. She has worked with prestigious events and organizations, including the 2015 Pan Am Games, OHL, CEBL, CFL, and NHL. Currently, she is the Vice President of Business Operations for the NLL’s Ottawa Black Bears, debuting in December 2024. Chelsea has a deep appreciation for and has seen the impact of minor league sports on youth of all ages and abilities. She is excited to join the board and continue supporting access & awareness to these opportunities to the Greater Ottawa Region.

Director : John Cunningham (he/him)

John has had extensive Senior  Management and Board engagement over 25 years with publicly traded companies… experience that has covered the gamut from strategy development to governance models.  After having worked many years abroad, he appreciates having the opportunity to be connected to the local Ottawa community, most recently contributing to the Kanata Youth Basketball Assn. and Kanata Food Cupboard (at a Board Level).  John has a strong belief that sport participation brings broad ranging benefits to the local community, to families and (of course) children… and is proud to help contribute to OSC as it furthers its mission.

Director : Eric McLoughlin (he/him)

Director : Eric McLoughlin (he/him)

Eric works with the Coaches Association of Ontario as the Senior Lead of Events & Partnerships to provide programming to educate and support Ontario’s network of coaches. His previous experiences include working with Team Ontario at the 2019 Canada Games as well as working with the 2015 Pan Am/Para Pan Am Games, and the Ontario Games. As a former swim coach from provincial and national levels, Eric brings his love of sport to the Board of Directors by advocating for a better world through sport and creating an inclusive environment for all to participate.

Director : Jennifer Dumoulin (she/her)

Director : Jennifer Dumoulin (she/her)

Trained as a lawyer, educator and researcher, Jennifer is committed to strengthening tools for educating, increasing awareness and improving safe sport policies and processes. Jennifer has served as the President and Chair of the Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club Board of Directors, and currently sits as a Member of the Governance Committees of Athletics Ontario and Sport for Life / Physical Literacy for Life. Jennifer currently works at the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services, as the Senior Manager for Governance and Legislation, in the Centre for Conflict Resolution and Ethics / Human Resources Legislated Programs Team, and at the University of Ottawa where she teaches part-time. In her spare time, Jenn stays active through running, weightlifting and walking her dog.

Director : Shamir Kanji

Director : Shamir Kanji

Shamir has deep roots in youth development through his numerous roles with the City of Ottawa, Aga Khan Youth and Sport Board of Ottawa, Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, Kanata Baseball Association and most recently with Kanata Youth Basketball Association.  With over 20 years of IT leadership as a Public Servant with Canada Revenue Agency, he is heavily engaged within the Government of Canada’s Anti-Racism strategy through data-based advocacy. Shamir’s family originated from East Africa, and he is passionate about driving awareness, empathy, and equality for all people. He sees sports as one of the most powerful vehicles through which to promote pluralism.

Executive Director : Marcia Morris (she/her)

Prior to joining the Ottawa Sport Council, Marcia had a successful career in the high-tech industry as well as at various levels of sport from community to international levels. Previously, Marcia served as the General Manager for the Ottawa site for FIFA, Executive Director for the Ottawa Carleton Ultimate Association, and worked with True Sport. She also consulted for a number of sport organizations including the Canadian Paralympic Committee and Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club. Marcia believes that sport an integral building block of healthy communities, and that sport provides opportunities for social inclusion. Marcia combines her passion for community sport and her in-depth experience in the industry to lead the Ottawa Sport Council’s operations.

Project Manager : Luke McGrath (he/him)


Project Manager : Luke McGrath (he/him)

Luke joined the Ottawa Sport Council in November 2023, shortly after completing the Sport Business Management Graduate Certificate at Algonquin College. He previously worked as a news reporter and helped organize a junior golf program in his hometown of Whitehorse, Yukon. Luke believes that sport has the power to enrich the spirit of a community, and that everyone deserves the same access and opportunity to participate.
