Background:
- Charitable Endowment fund in partnership with Ottawa Community Foundation and Their Opportunity
- Established to help Ottawa Community Sport Organizations improve inclusivity and accessibility to sport
- Grants are available on a yearly basis – focus changes each year
- Focus of 2023 grant- programs serving children and youth which support accessibility and inclusivity of those who face socio-economic barriers to participation in sport and underrepresented and marginalized populations
- Programs must meet Their Opportunity’s Charitable Purpose
- Ottawa Sport Council will host events to continue to grow the Endowment Fund- signature event will be the annual Ottawa Sport Summit
Program Goal – The purpose of the grant is to support community sport programs in the city of Ottawa which increase inclusivity and access to participation for children and youth who face socio-economic barriers to participation in sport and underrepresented and marginalized populations. The fund will support activities that are consistent with Their Opportunity’s Charitable Purpose.
Their Opportunity Charitable Purpose:
To deliver and subsidize local sport for development and community engagement programming. Their Opportunity’s programs and services help eliminate socio-economic barriers of access to sports and recreation while promoting a lifestyle of giving back.
Program Outcome
Greater access to sport participation opportunities.
Who can apply?
Incorporated not-for-profit organizations that offer sport programs and have operated and been incorporated for at least one year in Ontario.
Funding Available: 2 projects, up to a maximum of $2000 per project (only 1 application per organization will be funded)
Grant Duration: up to 1 year
Eligible Project Expenses:
The Ottawa Sport Council Foundation 2023 Community Opportunity Grant will support eligible expenses for programs which increase inclusivity and access to participation for children and youth who face socio-economic barriers to participation in sport and underrepresented and marginalized populations. Eligible expenses include:
- Personnel Costs to facilitate the program (instruction and training programs for coaches, officials, and other volunteers with the organization that focus on issues such as integration and inclusion of all participants)
- Facility costs to deliver the program (ice time, field time, pool time)
- Equipment Costs
Ineligible Project Expenses:
- Project expenses covered by other sources of funding
- Administrative expenses related to an organization’s ongoing business activities that do not relate to the program
- Any expense incurred before approval of the grant
- Capital costs (for example purchases of property, computers, furniture, or software).
Application Eligibility
- Applicants must include their Not-for-Profit Incorporation Number (Ontario or Federal) to confirm the eligibility of the organization.
Application: Applicants will be required to:
- Clearly describe the existing program that offers inclusivity to those who face barriers to participation in sport including but not limited to those who face social, economic or racial barriers and underrepresented and marginalized populations.
- Describe the activities included with the program and how they contribute to Their Opportunity’s charitable purpose
- Provide a budget for the project
Assessment Criteria – Assessment will be based on the following:
- Support inclusivity for children and youth who face socio-economic barriers to participation in sport and underrepresented and marginalized populations.
- Support for the Ottawa Sport Council Foundation 2023 Community Opportunity Grant program outcome
- Support for the charitable purpose of Their Opportunity
Reporting Requirements
Grant recipients will be provided a grant agreement outlining the program as described in their application form to ensure the funds are used solely for the purpose of the approved program. Grant recipients are also required to report on the work for which they receive funding. Reporting requirements include:
- A report outlining Services and Activities including a detailed account of how the program meets the charitable purpose of Their Opportunity – report template to be provided by the Ottawa Sport Council
- A budget and receipts outlining how the funds were utilized
Recognition
The Recipient shall provide appropriate acknowledgement of the Ottawa Sport Council Foundation and the Their Opportunity in its publicity, promotional materials, information materials, and on any website with reference to the project.
