It’s no secret that Canada is frigid during the long winter months. Our neighbours to the south (and other countries) have come to know us for our maple syrup, impeccable manners and of course our snow. All joking aside, our harsh weather sometimes makes it near impossible to stay active in cold Canadian winters, but here are some ways to continue to live a healthy and active lifestyle
Rideau-Vanier Welcomes First Multi-Sport After School Program
At the Ottawa Sport Council, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to participate in sport. Can you imagine your childhood without sport? Not being able to look forward to learning a new skill that you can practice and perfect?? With the help of an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, we are delighted to provide the opportunity to participate in a multi-sport after school program in Rideau-Vanier and help to develop and foster activity in the children in our own community.
The importance of inclusivity in sport
Sport - for many, is a way of everyday life. We encourage our children to stay active and enroll ourselves in various activities in the community both to be active and to set a good example. It isn’t often that we stop to think about how for some, sport is inaccessible.

In support of one of the Ottawa Sport Council’s (OSC) mandates to help make local sport more accessible, we are pleased to be launching the Rideau-Vanier ward’s first ever multi-sport after school program. In partnership with the Ottawa Carleton Ultimate Association (OCUA) and Ottawa Internationals Soccer Club (OISC), this program will enable youth ages 10-11 to enjoy sports’ benefits in this underserved area.
2018 Ottawa Sport Council Foundation Grant Launch
The Ottawa Sport Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Ottawa Sport Council Foundation: 2018 True Sport Community Grant. The Ottawa Sport Council Foundation is a Charitable Endowment fund established in partnership with Ottawa Community Foundation and the True Sport Foundation with the goal of providing support to Ottawa Community Sporting Organizations.
Concussion Awareness
The Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) has developed a national awareness campaign regarding concussions in sport. With increased awareness surrounding the topic since the passing of Rowan’s Law and, with sport leaders and athletes speaking out about the dangers, signs and long-term effects – Canadians are just hitting the tip of the knowledge iceberg.

Ottawa Police Service – Police Records Check- Fee Change- Have your Say!
The Ottawa Police Service is consulting the public on the proposed fee structure changes for police records check services.
The current fee structure model was approved in 2007 and no longer reflects the true costs of supporting records check requests. Market rates of other municipal police services in Ontario include fees for both employment and volunteer records checks.
