The City of Ottawa is widely known on an international stage as our Nation’s Capital. Our reputation is that our city plays host to some of the world’s biggest political names, has exceptional dining and entertainment and is also well-known for its renowned journalism and overall media presence. One thing that isn’t talked about as much, is our diverse sport culture.
How do recreational sports connect to a balanced life?
We have long known that children who participate in extra-curricular activities, especially sport, have a higher chance of having an overall successful adult life. Sports build character, lifelong friendships, encourage discipline and focus, the list goes on and on. But did you know that children who actively participate in sports activities also have a higher success rate in post-secondary education and continue on with physical activity into their adult life?

The Ottawa Sport Council Foundation is a Charitable Endowment fund established in partnership with Community Foundation of Ottawa and the True Sport Foundation with the goal of providing support to Ottawa Community Sporting Organizations.

March Break- A Perfect Time For Sports Camps
It seemed like yesterday that the kids were smiling as they headed off into the start of another school year. We were busy signing them up for the fall-season local sports clubs and thankful child-care costs would be alleviated with the return to full-time school. Fast forward six months, piles of snow from the recent “#onstorm” and we are already looking towards March Break.

Thank you to everyone who attended our stakeholder engagement sessions for the City’s Recreation Facility Allocation Policy back in June. These sessions provided valuable input and background in developing the new policy directions that staff will be recommending to Council in a soon to be released report.
