The Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy (CAPL) is the first research based assessment tool to measure physical literacy in children 8 to 12 years of age. This assessment tool has the ability to measure physical competence, knowledge and motivation towards physical activity and daily behaviour. All these together represent all the tools a child needs to live a healthy, active lifestyle. Over the past 5 years, researchers from the Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research Group (HALO) have tested CAPL on over 2000 children. CAPL is now ready to be used by recreation leaders and coaches to assess physical literacy of children in their programs.
