The 2023 Masters Indigenous Games (MIG), developed and hosted by Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario (ISWO), is looking for interested volunteers to support the successful delivery of this inspiring event. The Games are scheduled to take place this summer, from August 24-27 in the City of Ottawa, which resides on the traditional territory and ancestral homelands of the Algonquin Anishinaabe people. The 2023 MIG will feature an opening gala at the Canadian Museum of History; competition in seven sport categories; and offer a three-day cultural festival (open to the public) at Lansdowne Park. The 2023 MIG cultural festival will serve as an opportunity to create dialogue, promote greater understanding of the worlds Indigenous Peoples, and celebrate the power of sport and culture. Competition for the 2023 MIG is open to Indigenous athletes, 19 years of age and older, from anywhere in the world.
Volunteering with the 2023 MIG team will provide a chance to make new friends, gain rich experiences, and utilize your skills, while learning more about Indigenous cultures and communities. Volunteers will be assigned shifts based on their interests and skill sets (when and where possible), and availability. Volunteers are required to do at least two, four-hour shifts to qualify; please note that training will be provided. Volunteers will receive a free volunteer uniform, including a hat, t-shirt, and accreditation, along with free Games swag and other items. Volunteers will also receive meals and snacks during each 4-hour shift.
