When launching the Ottawa Sport Council, a lot of consideration and discussion was put into marketing and how exactly we would reach our target audience. As mentioned in our Webinar blog post, online marketing in our industry is all about information sharing and how we can help spread awareness about various sport organizations and events in and around the City of Ottawa.
Over the past decade, the world of sport and sports marketing has shifted drastically. What was once billboard ads, traditional media coverage of sporting events, even “word of mouth” has changed to websites, email newsletters and social media platforms. These changes have enabled us to reach a broader audience and get our news out faster.
Through social media and online marketing, not only have sport organizations been able to reach a broader demographic and grow their membership, but, like us, they have been able to organically network within the sporting community. This allows us to promote and share one another’s services, discuss upcoming events and work together for an overall goal of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in the City of Ottawa and across Canada.
One of the biggest challenges business and organizations face with social media, is keeping it genuine and relevant to their cause. We have found that if we engage our community, support others with like-minded values and goals, and have a little fun while educating our audience – we continue to stay relevant and contribute to the industry we are so passionate about. If you are on social media, we encourage you to connect with us. If you have yet to take that leap- we highly recommend exploring the various platforms that would be a good fit with your mandate and get out there and connect. Let us know how we can help you!
