What We Do

Champion

The Ottawa Sport Council is committed to continuing to serve our role as a leader for amateur and community sport. Our position as a champion of community sport is recognized by the City of Ottawa, and it is one that we are proud to hold in the community. We are committed to acting in the best interests of the community sport sector and driving policy and program improvements to continue advancing those interests.

The Ottawa Sport Council is committed to supporting community sport participation, reduce barriers and increase accessibility for equity deserving populations. In order to provide this support, the Ottawa Sport Council created the Ottawa Sport Council Foundation.

Each year the OSC Foundation aims to award grant funding to two community sport programs in Ottawa.  Past recipients of grant funding include:

Advisory Committees

Sports for Athletes with a Disability Committee

Led by the Abilities Centre Ottawa, the committee has compiled resources, documents and links to help create awareness and inform the sport community on the importance of inclusion and accessibility, to support quality participation and physical activity for all, and to support athletes with a disability. The committee, and the Ottawa Sport Council, is committed to supporting organizations, parents and participants when it comes to inclusive, accessible and safe sporting environments and programs for athletes with a disability.

Educate

The Ottawa Sport Council is committed to providing a range of relevant and timely educational resources, including information about current best practices and targeted materials for community-level sport participation.

Key Educational Resources:

The Belonging Playbook

The Belonging Playbook is a resource hub centered around equity, diversity and inclusion designed to help all members of community sport organizations (administrators, coaches, officials and volunteers) to create a more welcoming, inclusive sport environment and cultivate more positive sport experiences.

Ottawa Safe Sport Toolkit

The Ottawa Safe Sport toolkit was developed to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all community sport participants. Based on best practices and resources at the federal, provincial, and community levels, the Toolkit is a fundamental building block to create a healthy supportive environment in which everyone can thrive.

Concussion Education

The concussion education video was designed to provide coaches, players, parents, board members, staff, and volunteers alike with the knowledge of how to apply the 4 R’s of concussion management (Recognize, Remove, Refer, Return) in a sport setting. Developed in partnership with Parachute Canada and SIRC (Sport Information Resource Centre), it is aligned with the Canadian Harmonized Concussion Protocol, which is recognized by Sport Canada.
