In September, the Ottawa Sport Council reached out to Ottawa’s federal election candidates to learn about their positions regarding issues of interest and concern for the Ottawa sport community. Two key goals of this initiative were to:
- Increase candidates’ awareness of the challenges facing the community sport sector in Ottawa
- Provide the community sport sector in Ottawa with a clear picture of candidates’ plans to address their challenges, at the community level
The survey included questions regarding sport infrastructure and facilities, funding for amateur and high performance sport, and the use of sport for development.
The Ottawa Sport Council is pleased to share the responses from the following candidates:
Liberal Party of Canada:

- Ottawa Centre- Catherine McKenna
- Ottawa West-Nepean- Anita Vandenbeld
- Orleans- Andrew Leslie
New Democratic Party of Canada :
- Kanata Carleton- John Hansen
- Ottawa Centre- Paul Dewar
Green Party of Canada:
- Carleton- Deborah Coyne
- Ottawa-Vanier-Nira Dookeran
No candidates from the Conservative Party of Canada responded to our request.
