The City of Ottawa is widely known on an international stage as our Nation’s Capital. Our reputation is that our city plays host to some of the world’s biggest political names, has exceptional dining and entertainment and is also well-known for its renowned journalism and overall media presence. One thing that isn’t talked about as much, is our diverse sport culture.
Ottawa is home to a professional hockey and football team, has hosted the Women’s FIFA Tournament, various marathons and is also home of the world-famous Rideau Canal, which is used as an active venue all seasons. In addition to professional sports, our city has an abundance of well-organized amateur sport teams and clubs, which is where many of our professional athletes get their start.
What goes largely unnoticed, unless you are living sport in Ottawa, is the amount of heart and sense of community that goes into our city on a daily basis. We have a very large number of dedicated volunteers, coaches, participants and parents that champion and support the diversity in sport that we offer. Where there is interest or a need for a specific sport, we find a way to come together. The City of Ottawa has also always been a very big support to the various organizations and has continually seen the importance of living an active lifestyle.
Although we are smaller in size compared to some urban centres, Ottawa is a great city that offers the true meaning of what sport is all about- big heart and passion for the game!
