“Rob’s unwavering dedication to the youth sports community exemplifies the spirit of a local sports hero. He has not only preserved the rich history and tradition of NCAFA but has also set a course for sustainable growth and development, ensuring that future generations of young athletes have access to a well-organized and supportive sports environment.” – Jesse Card, Executive Director, Youth Ottawa
The Ottawa Sport Council is pleased to introduce Rob McLaurin as its latest community sport hero. Rob has been a cornerstone of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) for over two decades and is currently the association’s president. He has consistently worked to support and develop youth football in the Ottawa region. His passion for the sport and commitment to the community have made a profound impact on countless young athletes, their families, and the broader sports community.
Rob is passionate about using sports to give back to a supportive community.
“The community supports various sports programs through things like fundraising and sponsorships, so it’s important to give back to the community. I believe it’s an equal partnership between the sport organization and the community.”
Rob says he is proud to see youth athletes that he coached grow up and coach the next generation of athletes.
“I’ve seen players over the years who come up through our system who come back to coach. They’re coming back and giving back to the program. Sport teaches kids how they can give back and support others.”
Rob’s impact goes beyond football, as he has also been a long-time supporter of Special Olympics through the law enforcement torch run. His countless hours of work to make community sport a better place make him a true community sport hero, and the Ottawa Sport Council is incredibly grateful for his efforts.
