Overview of the Initiatives

The Ottawa Sport Council (OSC) is seeking 3 dynamic, full-time team members to drive two high-impact initiatives simultaneously. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of community engagement, event management and safe sport, leaving a lasting legacy in the Ottawa sport community.

  1. Safe.Good.Sport: A proactive educational campaign designed to empower parents, guardians, and athletes across 750 Ottawa Community Sport Organizations (CSOs) with tools, resources and knowledge for safer, more positive sport environments.
  2. Ottawa 200: 2 Days. Everyone Plays: A city-wide celebration of the City of Ottawa’s 200th Anniversary, focusing on breaking down barriers to participation and showcasing the power of sport to connect, inspire and most of all – joy. 

The Role
As an Education and Events Outreach Coordinator for the Ottawa Sport Councilyou will be part of an active, dedicated education and event delivery team. These roles are significant to the success of impactful initiatives and events that improve the quality, safety, and governance of community sport. You will work collaboratively with the Ottawa Sport Council team to manage logistics, event communications, relationship building, technology and communications to ensure high level, safe and educational programs are successful. 

Key Responsibilities

Event and Education Logistics

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans to ensure all outreach and event milestones are met within the 8-week timeline.
  • Coordinate meetings and manage feedback loops with community sport leaders, volunteers, parents, and athletes.
  • Handle volunteer recruitment, training, certification, and assignment for anniversary event activities.
  • Assist in the roll-out and distribution strategy of the Safe.Good.Sport. campaign city wide and in collaboration with community sport organizations across the city.

Content and Communications

  • Collect, review and adapt existing resources and support materials into parent- and athlete-friendly formats on a WordPress website platform (infographics, webinars, educational resources, tools, databases)
  • Build a data-base of sport hosting partners, with information on registration processes, locations, details and assist participants with the process
  • Draft proactive communications, including press releases, social media copy, and email blasts to promote the initiatives and events. 
  • Ensure all messaging aligns with current safe sport best practices and resonates with the realities of grassroots community sport.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent branding across all professional and engaging educational materials.
  • Build strong relationships working with stakeholders and community partners through webinars, virtual communications and in-person meetings and events

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility: Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Experience: Knowledge/background in coordination, content development, or technical writing, preferably within a non-profit or sport environment.
  • Communication: Detailed writing and verbal skills, with the ability to simplify complex information for any audience.
  • Technical Skills: Understanding of social media platforms, website communications, and basic digital design principles.
  • Values-Driven: A deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in all decision-making and project goals.
  • Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the Ottawa sport sector, education in a related field, experience volunteering or working in a nonprofit
