Keeping active through life’s busy schedule

September is a great time of year in the city of Ottawa. The weather starts to lean to the cooler side, the leaves begin their change into the beautiful picturesque colours of fall and it is still nice enough to get outside and stay active! The only problem is, the month of September can also bring changes, busy schedules and sometimes makes it tough to keep on track of our healthy lifestyles.
When summer winds up and the kids return to school, we often find ourselves looking to get back into a more structured routine. Long gone are the days of late nights at the cottage, relaxed bedtimes and “go with the flow” attitudes. Often, our healthy eating habits slip a bit to enjoy summer barbeques and we allow ourselves more treats
because of the holidays. So how do you keep you and your loved ones on track? Check out some of the links below to help keep active and focused through the seasonal transitions.

One of the best ways to explore Ottawa is by bicycle. There are over 600 kilometres of bike paths in Canada’s Capital Region. Take in the sights and sounds of the city, while staying safe and enjoying the green space the city has to offer.

There are washroom facilities along the way and Rent-a-bike options to make your excursion as convenient as possible. There is also a very unique bike sharing program called “RightBike”. This is a Causeway Social Enterprise and is designed to support employment and economic development while encouraging sustainable transportation choices. Make sure to check out the Ottawa cycling map to track your route before you head out. If you want to slow down the pace a bit and perhaps walk or hike the trails, which is also encouraged.

There are a wide array of activities, both indoor and outdoor to keep you fit and help your overall health. For more information on what is available, you can check out this City of Ottawa link:
