The Local Running Scene

If you’re an avid runner, or maybe just starting out – one thing is very clear – Ottawa is the place to be! With various clubs, meetups and even stores dedicated to the sport, there is no shortage of resources, support or even places to run in the Nation’s Capital. Where does one get started when looking for the latest races, news or general information in running? We’ve compiled some useful information to help.

Upcoming Races

  • 5K Foam Fest Ottawa, July 28th: The 5K Foam Fest is North America’s #1 Fun Run that is as challenging as you make it. With over 22 obstacles, the world’s tallest inflatable water slide, 2.5 million cubic feet of Foam and an amazing festival this is one event you can’t miss this year. With such a foamy “funcore” atmosphere, it’s an absolute party before, during and after your run! And because of the “funcore not hardcore” feel, you’ll fit right in with the crowd regardless of skill level.
  • National Capital 5K and 10K, July 28th: Join this fun National Capital weekend festival of running, swimming, paddling and cycling at Mooney’s Bay Park. This races welcome everyone- fast or slow, young or old, you are invited! Walkers also welcome.
  • Wavy Trails Run, August 4th: Carp, ON plays host to the Wavy Trails 5k, 3k and 1k run organized by Somersault Events. The courses will feature a mix of cross country trail and dirt road on private property.
  • Ultra Night Run Ottawa, August 11th: The ULTRA Night Run is a timed 5k and 10k night run that follows a neon lit course and finishes with a post-race beer garden. Each runner will receive an LED headlamp, shirt, beer ticket and a post race meal. This race is part of a national series that happens in cities across Canada.
