Volunteers are the backbone of community

Volunteers are the most important resource community organizations have. The ability of people to work willingly together for the betterment of their community and themselves is a valuable resource. Whether it is a festival or sporting event, there is much overall benefit to all involved for their time and efforts in making it a success.

Things to consider before volunteering:

  1. Evaluate your schedule to recognize where you have availability. Although any amount of time dedicated to helping is appreciated, volunteering should be looked at as a serious commitment so organizations have a strong base upon which they can rely.

  1. Once you determine how much time you can donate, assessing your skill set to see where you would be most beneficial will help you determine what organization is the best fit for you and how you can help.

  1. Make a list of organizations that interest you and research and contact them to discuss further. This will help give you the big picture of what they are looking for and if it is a good fit.

  1. Consider your life over the next few years. Are there any big milestones coming up that will prevent you from volunteering? Work projects that demand extra time, extended trips, care providing for family?

There are unexpected things that come up in life- the “what-if’s” are no reason NOT to volunteer, but being able to plan and foresee ahead will help you in making the best and most stress-free decisions.

Volunteering for sporting events and community festivals is an incredibly rewarding experience and everyone should try to get involved. The relationships that are built and memories that are made are worth-while and your community will thrive and be better overall with your help!
